《南方周末》的创刊，翻开了南方日报报业集团新的一页。叙事学、尤其是新闻叙事学还是一门新兴的学科，国内关于新闻叙事学的研究很少，《南方周末》从叙事学的角度对深度报道的叙事者、叙事视角、叙事时间、叙事结构等方面进行分析研究。《南方周末》作为广东省委机关报主办的系列报，从创办的第一天开始，就自觉意识到“作为党报的补充”的使命。她的创办者也扛起了中国报纸深度采访和报道的大旗，在定位上，注重民主和科学的启蒙，注重对新闻事实背景的报道以及事实本质问题的挖掘，这些定位契合了改革开放的需要，满足了读者的阅读需求，使在报业竞争中领先一步，很快形成了“反映社会，贴近生活，舆论监督，体现民意，坚持改革”的独特风格，并以“彰显爱心，维护正义，坚守良知”赢得众多读者，从而一纸风行，迅速独立于国内报林，并逐步成长为立足广东覆盖全国的大型综合性周报。《南方周末》深度报道方面的叙事策略也成为其深度报道的一大亮点，本文选择深度报道方面主要的叙事策略作为讨论对象，揭示《南方周末》叙事策略的特色，将事实置于更广阔的社会时代背景下，给读者以深刻的启发，并简单分析了《南方周末》还不够完美的新闻叙事变现，以便可以更加全面、客观以及详细、深入地认识了解深度报道。
