托马斯哈代是英国著名的小说家和诗人，他在世界文坛贡献巨大，使他享有盛誉。他是一个创作悲剧的天才，尤其在刻画女性人物方面。他对受到社会忽视的女性表示极大地同情和关心，这也是他成功的重要元素之一。他托马斯哈代大部分的作品中，女权意识经常出现在小说中。在《德伯家的苔丝》中，他刻画了一个在父权社会中挣扎的新的女性形象。
本篇文章将从两方面分析《德伯家的苔丝》中女权主义思想。首先它讲述了社会道德准则压迫下苔丝女权主义的觉醒，从苔丝对资本主义和传统道德的反抗中可以寻到。第二它讨论了宗教压迫下女权主义的觉醒，这一点在苔丝对宗教的失望与反抗有所表现。论文最终得女权主义是该小说主流这一结论。女性开始反抗资本主义社会，为了她们的权力和幸福而抗争。女权主义在这篇小说中贯穿始终。作为一位有名的作家，托马斯哈代不能争取男女平等，但是他所创作的角色能够激发所有女性开始反抗。虽然苔丝并没有摆脱悲惨的命运，她为了幸福生活而抗争使她成为一位伟大的女性。
Abstract
Thomas Hardy, one of the greatest British novelists and poets, enjoys a remarkable reputation based on his contribution to the literal world. He is a genius of writing tragedies, especially in characterizing women. He showed great concern for marginalized women, which is one of the important factors for his success. While in most of Thomas Hardy’s works, feminist consciousness often lurks in the novels that he wrote. In the novel of Tess of the D’Urbervilles, he characterized a new woman who struggles in the crack of the patriarchal society.
This thesis will try to analyze the novel Tess of the D’urbervilles from the Feminism in two points. Firstly, it deals with the awakening of the feminism under the rules of morality of feudalistic society. This is found in Tess’struggle against the capitalism and traditional morality. Secondly, it discusses the awakening of the feminism under the chains of religion. And this aspect is showed in how Tess disappointed and what she does to fight against the religion. The paper reaches conclusions that the feminism is the main stream of this novel. And women begin to fight against the feudalistic society and fight for their rights and happiness intently. Feminism can be found everywhere in this novel. As a famous writer, Thomas Hardy can not require equality between two sexes, but the character he creates can surely evoke all the women. Even though Tess does not get rid of her tragic fate, her struggle for a happy life makes her a great woman.
