劳拉·李·史密斯，一名美国的短篇小说家，深受广大读者喜爱。她的文章《任何速度都不安全》被收录在《2015美国最佳短篇小说集》中。小说讲述了主人公——48岁的失意中年男子西奥·比特纳——因无意之中看到了一个关于“雪弗兰”车的广告而开始了他的个人救赎之旅的故事。
到目前为止，关于劳拉·李·史密斯的学术研究并不多。这篇论文选择“任何速度都不安全”这篇小说作为研究对象，并且试图仔细分析故事中“雪佛兰”这个中心意象，从它对个人的救赎以及对于社会来说是对现实的逃避来分析这个意象的象征意义。并且将“雪佛兰”作为一个线索，从对主人公性格塑造以及对心理变化的推动两方面找出它对主人公人物的形象塑造的作用，同时探讨对小说剧情的推动作用，进而探索“雪佛兰”对小说主题的深化影响。
