“红色文化”蕴涵着丰富厚重的历史文化，体现了特定历史时期所形成的革命精神。这种精神是中华民族传统精神与时代精神相结合的产物，是对历史传统精神进一步丰富和发展的新的民族精神。海南在经济发展的过程中，其丰富的自然景观和文化习俗等都是海南长久以来发展旅游产业的优势所在。目前海南全岛确定的革命遗址有501处，覆盖至海南18个市县。这些革命遗址都是写在大地上的党史，是不可再生的红色资源。因此，在当前国家建设海南国际旅游岛的建设规划出台之际，结合海南岛在旅游发展过程中所取得的经验，探讨汉南红色旅游发展中的优势，分析在红色旅游发展中存在的问题，对于我国建设海南国际旅游岛建设规划的实施也必将起到一定的借鉴意义。
